SLO Reflections

Iterative Writing

In regards to SLO iterative writing, I did not know really where or what to pinpoint the definition. I am still getting my head wrapped out around a clear definition of SLO over all. I had somewhat of an idea that it includes formal writing. I just did not know it what way it would be incorporated in this course bout composing arguments. We are now in week 6 of this course and I think I have had a few opportunities to utilize iterative writing through a few assignments. My goal for all of the project 1 SLO’s was to be able to use it after this class or outside of this class. I have not had that opportunity yet to do so with Iterative writing. According to SLO Baseline Journal Project 1 by Jada York(myself), “Iterative writing includes, “refining and revising”. The challenges I have faced is just waiting on peer reviews to get the best advice to do so. Not saying my peers took extensive reply times in peer discussions or anything. It is just always better to have someone from the outside looking give constructive criticism.  Another project that allowed me to use iterative writing was my,  Outlining and Structing Review Journal. The image provided image below, shows how I was able to outline my speech for my review project. I used organization and presentation, apart of iterative writing.

Genre Awareness

Genres awareness in SLO was easy to define but difficult to utilize. My previous knowledge of genre awareness is A slight definition. I just broke down the word genre and awareness and put them together. Genre is a category of music, books, or even films. Awareness is having knowledge or idea of A setting or facts. So genre awareness is knowing the ideal of a category. This was my initial thought I needed to apply it to SLO, writing and composing arguments. It applies to several different media but includes annotation and analysis in SLO. I utilized SLO Genre awareness in my Project Brainstorm Board assignment. Initially, my review topic was going to be TikTok food recommendations. After reviewing peer and instructor notes I realized I was combining two different genre topics. Apps and Food Recommendations. I mentioned, “The subject I am reviewing succeeds in directing my audience and informing them.” I just had to narrow it down to what specifically, I’m informing my audience on. During week 3, I utilized genre awareness to begin with a narrowed topic in my thesis(see image below) . The topic was narrowed to a specific category and not things around the category. It is narrowed down to a specified restaurant and its food. I included the same tools such as the app and recommendations to create my thesis in the food genre. My work is provided in the image.

Multi-Modal Development

At the beginning of this course, I mis defined multi-modal development in SLO. I broke down the words; multi, modal, and development. Then putting together what I thought was the definition.  I did not know it applied to multiple media and not multiple people or groups. I assumed since SLO applies to different ways to reach an audience,  multimodal development applies to media for more than one person. It would contain some type of suggestion or knowledge. I had the right idea but I was utilizing the term to the wrong things. It is the usage of multiple media to reach an audience. Not one usage of media for more than one person. I used Multi-Modal Development in this course, during my Project 1 Media Lab Discussion. During this project, I used A media site video of myself to, “the hook strategy of establishing credibility through ethos.” Throughout this course, I used the SLO strategy to my advantage. It is easier to catch an audience’s attention with visuals, rather than an essay or article sometimes. The first time I can recall using Multi-Modal Development in this course was for my, “About Me” Video Portfolio. Initially, I struggled to navigate my website and add media but once I did, it was easy to summarize my information. An example is provided below.
